Polar Coldrooms has spent several days this month working on a bespoke freezer room project at a luxury clifftop hotel, on the beautiful Cornish coastline. The new cold room is located in the busy kitchen of the hotel’s restaurant.
Phase one of works included decommissioning the existing freezer room and remote refrigeration system, dismantling the freezer room and carefully removing all panels manually from the kitchen, through the hotel to a skip, to be disposed of safely. After decommissioning, our team found the existing floor full of water and ice which made it incredibly heavy and time consuming to dismantle and carry through the premises. The floor was in a very poor condition and had deteriorated badly, so repair and re-levelling work had to be arranged and completed before cold storage work could recommence.
Our installation team cut all panels to meet dimension requirements as per the bespoke room, ensured all wall panels have thermal breaks (to eliminate any possibility of frost creep), created a door opening to ensure optimum door swing for easy access, cut and fitted aluminium angle to the floor and fitted white food-safe angles and cappings to all of the corners.
Our engineers replaced all of the deteriorated 1 1/8” suction line lagging/insulation to all external pipework along the 10m pipe run, successfully recommissioned the existing remote freezer refrigeration system, tested the system and left it running.
The bespoke freezer room measures 1.7m wide x 4.3m deep x 2.55m high and is constructed from Purever panels and a Portiso door. It is constructed of 100mm thick PIR white food safe, smooth finish panels. The floor compromises 100mm thick PUR with anti-slip phenolic resin finish. The door is 700mm wide x 1850mm high, is hinged and fitted complete with lockable handle and low voltage door frame heater. A Fermod PRV (pressure release valve) has also been fitted to the ceiling.
The installation was completed on schedule, in time for the hotel re-opening after its major refurbishment. A successful project completed by the Polar Coldrooms team for this luxury hotel in a stunning location.
